What to look for in a car under ₲30M
Accessible spare parts
At this price you'll buy a used Japanese import. Make sure parts are cheap and easy to find in Asuncion. Toyota and Nissan win by far.
Low fuel consumption
With fuel at ₲8,400, consumption matters. A car that burns 5 L/100km vs 8 L/100km saves you ₲100,000+ per month.
Good resale value
Toyotas hold their value better than any other brand in Paraguay. A Vitz you buy today at ₲20M, in two years you sell at ₲17M. With other brands you lose more.
Reliability track record
Engine that doesn't break, transmission that doesn't slip. Toyota 1NZ and 2NZ engines (Vitz, Platz, IST) are practically indestructible with basic maintenance.

Warning signs when buying cheap
Price too low for the model and year? Probably has a hidden problem: burnt engine, broken transmission, repaired crash, or tampered odometer.
No AC or broken AC. Repairing AC can cost ₲2 to 5 million. That 'cheap' car isn't so cheap anymore.
Bald or uneven tires. Four new tires cost ₲1.5 to 2.5 million. Add them to the real price of the car.
Engine that smokes when accelerating (blue smoke = burns oil, white smoke = head gasket). Run away.
Incomplete documentation or in someone else's name. Don't buy without the green card in the seller's name. Transfer issues can cost more than the car.
Tips for smart buying
Take the car to a trusted mechanic BEFORE paying. An inspection costs ₲100,000 to 200,000 and can save you millions in surprises.
Compare prices on Carzona before going to see the car. If the seller asks more than the market average, you have an argument to negotiate.
Prioritize Toyota over any other brand in this price range. Parts are the cheapest and resale is the best.
A car with more km but well maintained is worth more than one with low km and questionable maintenance. Ask for service invoices if available.
